about

“ ‘Warm Orange Glow’ refers to the reflection of the city lights onto the clouds at night. It’s also a feeling you get in your heart when something … lovely and sentimental occurs. This song was written about the last time I saw an ex-boyfriend of mine, a creative soul who ultimately lost his battle with all sorts of things.”

“Since moving to Devonport in 2012, I’ve slowly been building up a beautiful community of musicians who I am lucky enough to call my friends. Michael’s studio in Deloraine is acoustically engineered to specialise in capturing live performances of small jazz ensembles. I couldn’t have been luckier really, having the chance to work there with such monstrous musicians. We did about 5 takes and that was that. Woodsy added the flugel afterwards.”

Reminiscent of Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell, “Warm Orange Glow,” ebbs and flows with a river of emotion. Sparkling piano, unobtrusive drums and melodic bass all support a mercurial vocal which is counterbalanced by Woods’ honey-tinged flugel.

‘Warm Orange Glow’ is the first cut from Lee’s anticipated 2022 full length album.

lyrics

He left me at the station with a peck on the cheek,
And a promise to keep in touch
Not much, I know
But just enough, to give the sky that warm orange glow
It’s like that moment when you dive underwater,
You’re caught in another place
You resurface a second later to find, that not much has changed
But just enough to put a smile on your face

It doesn’t happen often,
That I let my edges soften
It doesn’t happen much

We tumbled into bed like children
I lay awake to keep watch on your breathing
I thank you when you’re leaving
For not much I know
But just enough to give my heart a warm orange glow

You answer the phone with a rush
Like you don’t have time to listen to me gush
I’m just calling to see how you’re travelling
Not much I know
Just one last time before I go

It doesn’t happen often,
That we let our edges soften
It doesn’t happen much
